WAYANAD Wildlife Sanctuary

Wayanad Wildlife sactuary is an animal sanctuary in Wayanad, Kerala, south India. Also known as 'Muthanga' Wildlife sanctuary. Wayanad wildlife sanctuary is second largest wild life santuary in kerala Established in 1973. The wildlife sanctuary comes under protect elephant. A variety of wild animals such as elephant , dear, tiger are found here. It is best with green forest and wildlife.

Herds of elephants roam freely through Muthanga and can see tigers occasionally.  And frequent sightings of deer, monkeys, tigers, leopards, bears, many species of reptiles, fishes, butterflies, birds including vultures etc. Vegetation is predominantly of south Indian moist deciduous teak forests. Elephant rides are also arranged here by the Forest department.

The natives of muthanga are tribal aadivasis mainly consist of various sects like adiyars, kurichyas, kattunaikkans etc. They have their own tribal culture. Wayanad has an powerful history that human life existed in thease region, atleast ten centuries before Christ. Historic tourism sites include Edakkal Caves, Pazhassi Memorial, Jain Temples at Panamaram, Sulthan Bathery Jain Temple, etc.

Muthanga is continued with Mudumalai of Tamilnadu and Bandipur of Karnataka. This sanctuary occupies an area of 345 km2. Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is located 16 km east of Sulthan Bathery in state of Kerala. A travel through Muthanga road, offer chances to watch roaming elephants and other wild animals.

'WAYANAD' Unique district formed in 1980

         Wayanad is known as green paradise of Kerala. It is well known for its mountains, rivers, waterfalls and so on. Wayanad is one of the prime tourist destination in Kerala. This unique district was formed in November 1, 1980, as the 12th district of Kerala. One of the major wild life sanctuary in Kerala lies in Wayanad. Here can see wild animals.
         The major city in Wayanad is Kalpetta, early known as 'Mayanad'. 'Mayanad' later changed to 'Wayanad'. The people of Wayanad mainly depends on agriculture. The major cultivating products of Wayanad is Tea, coffee, plantain, cardamom etc...
         The major tourist destinations in wayanad are "Pookode lake, Edakkal cave, Chembra peak, Meenmutty waterfalls, Pakshipathalam, Kuruvadweep, Jain temple etc... And this mountainous region have a cold climate.
